HEC-RAS 1D/2D Modelling

This intensive course will prepare the engineer or water resource professional to use the current version of HEC-RAS for modelling one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) flow. The course curriculum is an intensive combination of lectures and workshops focussed on model development in HEC-RAS.

Our inaugural Australian and New Zealand courses were taught by former HEC programmer and code writer Chris Goodell, a highly regarded expert in hydraulic modeling whose experience includes code writing and model development for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Hydrologic Engineering Centre. Additional courses across Australia are taught by Krey Price, a widely experienced hydraulic modeller who spent fifteen years of his career developing hydraulic models for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Krey has recently completed and presented benchmarking studies comparing the results of HEC-RAS 5.0 2D models to TUFLOW for Australian river systems.

This course assumes a rudimentary prior knowledge of HEC-RAS model development; for absolute beginners, written guidance documents and sample files are provided in advance for prior completion in order to allow the course to proceed at a challenging pace for all attendees. The course is intended to prepare participants to construct, run, view, and interpret 1D, 2D, and combined 1D/2D models for unsteady flow conditions and will provide an introduction to sediment transport capabilities within HEC-RAS. All attendees build, run, and animate a model from scratch by the end of the course.
