Recent dam failures and updated guidelines highlight the need for continuing education around the governing principles of dam breach analyses. Ongoing improvements in both hardware and software allow increasingly detailed models that still require proper input selection to provide meaningful results that improve public safety.
Following the success of his Melbourne HEC-RAS 2D flood modelling course, we enjoyed having The RAS Solution and Breaking the HEC-RAS Code author Chris Goodell return to the southern hemisphere to teach a sold-out dam breach analysis course in Auckland, New Zealand.
We also held a sold-out course in Brisbane in February 2017, which was the first HEC-RAS 5.0 dam breach course in Australia.
The course includes modules covering recent updates to ANCOLD, NZSOLD, and AR&R guidelines for risk assessment and numerical flood modelling. Click here for the course agenda. The courses were advertised on the HEC-RAS Blog – see comments and discussion here.
Keep up to date with our dam breach webinar and our online dam breach assessment course. Click here for our article “Dammed if you don’t…” addressing recent dam failures published by the International Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Management.
Need help setting up, reviewing, or troubleshooting flood models? We also offer drainage designs, surface water management plans, flood mapping, impact assessment, flood mitigation, hydraulics structures design, QA/QC, and more. See our consulting services for details or book consulting hours.
We provide in-person and online professional development training for water-related disciplines.
